The cunning old fox, sensible of his disgrace and knowing that it was impossible to recover his tail, maintained that he found from experience that such an appendage was inconvenient, ugly and unnecessary.


The above passage was in the log book of Bromley National School with the note that the average number of errors in standard six was 0.5. Pupils in standards five and four made an average of 3.4 and 3.8 mistakes respectively.
