It has been rebuilt but the new building is now a
McDonald's. The husband
of the first landlady was a sawyer. That is to say, he sawed tree trunks
into planks in a saw pit.

Three sawyers worked as a team. One held the upper handle
of the saw, another was in the pit holding the lower handle (a dusty
job) and the third sharpened a spare saw (the teeth were soon blunted). There was
a saw pit in Brewery Road, close to the pub.
